Intro about the game: Mahjong Solitaire (also commonly known as Shanghai Solitaire) is very different from the normal 4 player Mahjong game. The only common thing between the two games is that they are played with the same tiles.
Purpose of the game: In Mahjong Solitaire you try and remove all the tiles from the playing area by matching up tiles that are free. Free tiles are tiles that don't have tiles bordering on their left or right hand side.
How to play the game: Mahjong Solitaire is a puzzle game based on a classic Chinese game. The goal is to remove only paired free tiles. The tile is free when there are no tiles either to the left or right and above it. Not every tile set can be fully removed.
Some special tricks about the game play: Tiles with other tiles on top off them are also not free. Below are some pictures with free tiles highlighted to give you an idea.
